What causesHair Loss?
Hair loss is a multi-faceted, common and for some embarrassing issue – There are numerous factors attributing to men losing their hair, such as heredity baldness, hormonal changes, medical conditions or ageing.
At Project Alpha we understand that a full head of hair makes a man feel younger and generally better about himself. With 1 in 4 men aged 30 and older in the UK losing hair, we understand that it is a massive issue for many. The most common type of loss of hair is MPB (Male Pattern Baldness).
In patients with MPB we see an issue with the hairs natural growth cycle slowing down, producing shorter and finer strands of hair. Eventually, the growth cycle for each hair ends and no new hair grows in its place causing the loss of hair.

Hair LossTreatment and Support
Project Alpha’s team have extensive experience in hair loss treatments, so you’re in safe hands with us. We currently prescribe the most recommended hair loss medication in the country right now. It comes in the form of a tablet that is taken daily and works by blocking the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme is responsible for converting testosterone to another hormone in the body that then causes hair loss in males.
83% of men taking this treatment say their symptoms stopped after taking the drug with another 65% seeing hair regrowth after their initial loss of hair. Importantly, it does not cause additional body hair growth, it only stimulates hair growth on the head.
As with most treatments, it’s important to get help as soon as you start noticing the problem, so get in touch today.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect when I use a treatment for hair loss? +
When using any treatment, it’s important to keep in mind that hair regrowth is a naturally slow process, so there may not be much visible change for the first one to three months. But remember: Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is a luscious head of hair, so it’s key that you give your treatment time to work its magic.
After about three to six months of using your treatment twice a day, the symptoms should start to slow down and newly regrown hairs should begin to emerge. Initial hairs may be soft and light at the start, but should eventually become the same as normal hair.
Beyond six months, hair loss should slow significantly and thicker, fuller regrown hair should begin to fill in patches of thinning hair. Scalp coverage should noticeably improve and hairs should look stronger and healthier
Are hair loss treatments suitable for everyone? +
Treatments are suitable for men aged 18-65 who are experiencing mild to moderate male pattern baldness.
A full list of warnings and precautions is available in the Patient Information Leaflet and/or Safety Information Page included with all the hair loss treatments we provide, which you should always read before using any treatment for the first time.
What are the potential side effects of hair loss treatments? +
Like most medicines, treatments can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Before using any medicine, it’s important to be aware of the potential side effects, as this knowledge will help you to use your treatment safely and effectively.
A complete list of side effects is available in the Patient Information Leaflet and/or Safety Information Page included with every male pattern baldness treatment we provide, which you should always read before taking any treatment for the first time.
How long do hair loss treatments take to work? +
The time it takes to see a reduction in hair loss and the regrowth of new hair depends on the type of treatment you choose. As hair growth is a naturally slow process, it usually takes a few months to notice any changes. This is normal, and the best results are usually observed after six months of treatment.
What happens if I stop using my hair loss treatment? +
If you decide to stop using your treatment, it’s likely that you will lose the hair you regrew during treatment within three to four months. Therefore, continuous use is recommended for the best results.
To help you stay on track with your hair regrowth journey, we’ll send you a refill of your treatment every month so you never have to worry about running out. By keeping topped up on your hair growth medication, you can retain any hair you regrow and continue to encourage new hair regrowth.
What happens if I forget to use my hair loss treatment one day? +
Don’t worry if you forget to use your treatment one day. Although male pattern baldness treatments work best when they are used consistently, it takes about three to four months for regrown hair to disappear once treatment is stopped. Therefore, forgetting to use the treatment for one day shouldn’t have an impact on your hair coverage.
Important: if you forget to take your hair loss treatment, do not double the dose to make up for the one/s you missed. Instead, use it as normal the following day.
